Position Highlights

The College of Medicine - Tucson, Department of Medicine Business Office invites applications for a Financial Analyst (Financial Analyst I). Successful candidates will possess knowledge in accounting and grant administration, as well as have strong initiative and prioritization skills. This position provides support to higher level financial analysts by approving transactions in UA Financials, ensuring alignment with grant and contract budgets, providing reconciliation of payroll records for the Department. This position is a key contributor to the success of the Department of Medicine's Business Office team and its mission.

This position supports the operations of the Department, as well as ensures faculty and staff are assisted in a professional and timely manner. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supports higher level Financial Analysts II's by doing general analysis and preliminary review of daily transactions for 11 Divisions regarding departmental, faculty and staff EDocs in UA Analytics to support expense reimbursement and travel reimbursement.
  • Reviews submitted documentation for completeness and ensures backup documentation compliance with FSO policies, and communicates with divisional staff and faculty regarding needed corrections.
  • Conducts preliminary review of 340B sponsored programs and clinical trial invoices received from divisional clinical coordinators for programs under DOM Finance office oversight and reviews with Financial Analyst II's for approval.
  • Submits invoices to Accounts Payable to be paid and adds information to Finance Office excel tracking report.
  • Performs initial reconciliation of state, designated, gift sponsored and foundation account expenses as well as assists in the preparation of financial reports subject to review by Financial Analyst IIs.
  • Provides support as requested by the Financial Analyst IIs in processing of internal billing documents, SET's, GEC's in UAccess Financials.
  • May help prepare position distributions, and assist in month end payroll review and reconciliation.
  • Assists with the UA/Banner DOE reconciliation of effort for faculty and helps to prepare adjustments as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of UA and UA Foundation policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups and individuals and via multiple methods (written, verbal, in-person, and virtual).
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Suite applications (Outlook, Excel, Access).
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve various problems or issues.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on complexity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience is required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UA Systems including UAccess Analytics and UAccess Financials, or similar systems.
  • Advanced experience with spreadsheet and database applications including Excel and Access.
  • Experience working with budgeted funds in a research or public service setting.
  • General Business or Accounting field of study.
