Overview

The Health Care Payment and Quality Division has immediate multiple openings for Master's-level Health Economists to assist with implementation, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of innovative health and social policies, programs, and research initiatives. Candidates with strong skills in quantitative analysis, evaluation, policy analysis, proposal and report writing, and project management are encouraged to apply.

This position can be either fully remote or based in RTI's U.S. offices in Research Triangle Park, NC; Waltham, MA; or Washington, DC. Teleworking is permitted within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with researchers to evaluate the financial and quality impacts of healthcare policies.
  • Gather, interpret, and synthesize healthcare data and background information to provide comprehensive insights.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative economic research activities of moderate technical complexity to assist federal health agencies in the implementation of new policies.
  • Write proposal sections of moderate technical complexity requiring application of economic theories and methodologies.
  • Perform economic and statistical analyses using Excel, SAS, STATA, Python or R.
  • Orally present (or participate in orally presenting) project results to clients.
  • Perform work with minimal supervision/guidance from more experienced project leaders or program managers.
  • Contribute to scientific stature activities by participating in RTI internal presentations/seminars, and presenting work/papers at conferences.
  • Ensure that all client deliverables undergo appropriate levels of QA/QC and technical and editorial review.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying new ways to enhance or expand existing tasks/projects and presents research ideas/white papers in a clear, concise and well-organized format.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Economics, Health Services Research, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Finance, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Pharmaceutical Economics, or a related field.
  • Substantial quantitative coursework (e.g., statistics, quantitative methods, data analysis).
  • Demonstrated interest in health economics research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with statistical programming packages (e.g. Python, R, SAS, SQL, or STATA).
  • Knowledge of health care markets (e.g., Medicare prescription drug market).
  • Familiarity with issues in the economics or pricing of prescription drugs, and data used in economic or utilization analyzes of prescription drugs.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills as evidenced in a research project, paper, or other work.
