Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Stroke Educator is to support the learning needs of staff and patients by providing opportunities for the acquisition of new knowledge, skills, and behaviors in view of advancing technologies, changing health care delivery systems, expanding staff roles, evidence base practice and research. These opportunities include but are not limited to orientation, continuing education, formal and informal in services, coaching and consulting.

Additionally, the Stroke educator helps to assist with the requirements for the Stroke Certification are maintained for the acute STHS facility and assists with completion of required actions. The Stroke program educator other responsibilities may include concurrent rounding on the stroke patients, medical record reviews, coordinating data collection processes, exhibiting proficiency in data management. Participate in the quality improvement program to evaluate care for these patient populations Assures education of the staff and the community regarding initiatives and care of the stroke patients. Works with the Stroke Medical Director and System Neuroscience Director to address identified Performance Improvement and educational needs through appropriate committees and activities. Furthermore, the Stroke department believes that South Texas Health System employee's continuing education is a major asset in employee recruitment and retention.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

2. Bachelors in Nursing preferred.

3. Must have and maintain current BLS. If not already certified in ENLS must obtain within 1 year of hire. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider's Program. For Behavioral Health, the educator only needs the BLS instructor certification within 24 months.

Must be current upon hire and thereafter

ACLS
If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire;

nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
