A Brief Overview

ERAS (Extended Recovery After Surgery) Nurse Coordinator. Responsible for the organization of patients care for ERAS patients. Coordinates patient care services with an emphasis on clinical guidelines and outcomes management. Leads the ERAS operations committee, works with community hospital champions and engages and interacts with senior leadership at all levels and locations, directs and negotiates through collaborations with physicians and staff to promote care delivery that assures efficiency/clinical outcomes, and cost effectiveness at each entity. To maintain the nursing staff in all areas as well as to deliver safe, efficient age specific nursing care to patient/families.

What You Will Do



  • Program development, establishes and monitors care standards and on-going program maintenance for the ERAS Centers of Excellence
  • Coordinates, evaluates the effective care for ERAS patients
  • Designs teaching programs for patients, families and provides assistance to clinical staff in program implementation
  • Acts as ERAS source for nursing and direct care providers, implements and enhances patient education activities
  • Provides specialized nursing knowledge and expertise, functioning as a clinician, educator, researcher and consultant to medical/nursing staff, patient and families
  • Oversees ERAS Center of Excellence Program development in conjunction with the Medical Director and CNO
  • Assesses ERAS program protocols and processes and recommends changes as appropriate
  • Direct patient care/assessment and relationship based care
  • Maintains records associate with ERAS program
  • Provides staff education and staff development associated with ERAS
  • Provides discharge planning, community resource referrals and education
  • Customer service
  • Committee and community involvement
  • Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, providers (surgeon and anesthesiology), customers (internal and external) and UH caregivers
  • Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
  • Displays commitment to the mission of the Health System and its values

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
