Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor - SCI Laurel Highlands

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands seeks an individual who will educate inmates in the vital trade of refrigeration mechanics through vocational training. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at SCI Laurel Highlands, you will take a leading role in providing structured training to inmates in the refrigeration mechanic trade, significantly enhancing their employability upon reintegration into the community. Your expertise will ensure that you effectively supervise inmates during both classroom instruction and hands-on work assignments, maintaining their care and control at all times. You will confidently manage work orders that include diagrams and sketches, selecting the appropriate procedures, tools, equipment, and materials needed for each task. Your work will be performed under general supervision, with regular reviews by a technical or administrative supervisor, ensuring that all training meets the highest industry and trade competency standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment; 40 hour work week.
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

• You must have possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
