SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Supervisor organizes, supervises, and participates in the maintenance, repair, and operation of complex underwater search and AUV systems and subsystems. AUV systems include all onboard components of the AUV and associated peripheral systems, including navigation, communication, and data collection systems. The AUV Supervisor is also required to work in a team environment as well as handle assignments independently. This position is based out of Largo, MD and reports to the Project Manager or Program Manager as necessary.

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (hourly)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes and ensures compliance with Phoenix's safety programs; quality management system (QMS); and company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assesses weather conditions and coordinates with deck and ship's crew for AUV/survey equipment launch and recoveries.
  • Coordinates, leads, and executes the system operations and repairs of AUV and launch and recovery equipment.
  • Manages client relations on vessel.
  • Quality Assures collected subsea data and ensures it meets project specifications.
  • Effectively reports the status of operations daily via written or voice communications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline from an accredited college or university. Five years of relevant experience can substitute for degree.
  • Five to ten years of operations and maintenance experience with remote systems equipment, including AUVs and/or side scan survey systems.
  • 360 days offshore AUV operational watch-standing experiences to include collection and quality assurance of AUV data.
  • Experience with Teledyne SeaRaptor or other 6,000-meter-rated AUV preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise effective team development, coaching, supervision, and leadership.
  • Ability to produce clear, comprehensive company written reports for onshore management and clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Computer skills, with competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, when on ships or rigs at sea.
  • Ability to walk unassisted and carry 45 pounds.
  • Ability to travel worldwide, on short notice, for indefinite periods of time.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and physical, as required.
  • Authorization/eligibility to work in the U.S. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
