Data Science Specialist 1

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health seeks a data science specialist to provide programming, data management, and analytics reports for a laboratory that conducts basic and clinical research on the neurophysiology of PTSD, suicide risk, and traumatic brain injury using wearable sensors, clinical interviews, and questionnaires.

The candidate will be responsible for programming research tasks, managing and cleaning datasets, and analyzing and interpreting physiological, self-report, and behavioral research data. They will collaborate with faculty and staff members to further the goals of the research program by establishing standard operating procedures for data cleaning and management, report generation and visualization, assisting with manuscript writing and presentation preparation, and preparing preliminary data for grant submissions.

They will perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Required Experience:
Ability to translate, adapt, and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of scientific research. Ability to problem-solve and trouble shoot scientific and administrative challenges and barriers. Ability to take initiative, learn new technologies and methodologies, and remain flexible in the work environment. Strong experience engaging employees in the workplace through collaboration, accountability, integrity, and respect. This position requires successful completion of a background check, and qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Desired Experience:
Experience with cleaning and analysis of data from psychophysiological equipment such as electrocardiogram (ECG), electrodermal activity (EDA), respiration, and functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Experience with R, PsychoPy, Python, and RedCap are desired. The individual will assist other laboratory scientists with their research.
