Job Summary

Program Coordinator (50% paid effort and benefits): The Program Coordinator supports the planning, coordinating, and scheduling of community programs and services, whether they occur online or in person. They are responsible for researching community events and potential partnerships to boost BHI's community impact. The role includes managing BHI's social media outlets and website to ensure consistent and engaging online presence. Additionally, the coordinator aids in organizing monthly community advisory committee meetings by taking notes and distributing them afterward. Creating outreach materials, such as flyers, posters, and press releases, is also a key part of the job, helping to effectively promote BHI's programs and engage with the community.

The candidate will play a crucial role in promoting BHI's efforts within communities of color and ensuring community events have adequate volunteer staffing. This involves engaging community members, health professional students, and medical doctors. Ideal candidates possess existing knowledge of community programs and will coordinate outreach efforts to enhance the visibility of the Black Health Initiative. Activities include distributing flyers, participating in community events, and facilitating online programming. They will recruit volunteers through different outreach channels and manage their activities during events. The candidate also focuses on building strategic partnerships through community outreach and is responsible for creating or coordinating the development of promotional flyers and culturally relevant health education materials.

In the role focused on Community Relationship Building, the candidate will work to combat medical mistrust and enhance the availability of free health services in communities of color. This involves fostering and maintaining strong relationships with program participants. The candidate's tasks include conducting wellness phone calls and sending health education text messages to ensure ongoing communication and support. Additionally, the candidate will assist in the planning and execution of BHI's Healthy Street engagement activities, which are specifically designed to connect with and benefit communities of color. These efforts aim to build trust and encourage participation in health initiatives, ultimately supporting the health and wellness of these communities.

Manages administrative tasks, customer service, and community health planning. Essential skills include communication, event planning, and design, with familiarity in public health and local communities. The role requires independence and teamwork, with a health-related degree preferred but not required.

Under the Associate Director's supervision, the Program Coordinator will handle administrative and customer service tasks and plan community health programs. The role requires familiarity with San Francisco's Black communities and public health. Key skills include interpersonal communication, customer service, designing visual communication, and event planning. The candidate should be adaptable, capable of working independently or in teams, and eager to learn. A health-related degree is preferred but not mandatory.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $50,700 - $107,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the School of Medicine at UCSF. The mission of the Department is research, education, patient care and public service. The Department has more than 450 full-time faculty at four sites - Parnassus, Mount Zion, Veteran's Administration Medical Center, and San Francisco General Hospital - and approximately 60 divisions. Central Administration at the Parnassus/Laurel Heights sites is responsible for directing the administrative functions of the Department via its sites and divisions, including the provision of research administration services for its faculty. The Division of Infectious Diseases consists of 102 faculty, fellows, and staff whose work is grounded in deep commitment the highest standards of clinical care and teaching, as well as, research leading to new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. The Division of Infectious Diseases employs and trains leaders in academic, superb clinical researcher scientists and basic scientists, and outstanding clinicians. Our faculty are leading experts in adult infectious diseases.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and one or more years or relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to develop and produce program flyers, brochures and presentations.
  • Ability to deliver educational presentations to diverse groups.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and diplomacy.
  • Solid Knowledge of Microsoft Windows software.
  • Ability to identify and cultivate potential partnerships with professional organizations.
  • Solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational, planning and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Terminal degree in a related field preferred (PhD, JD, MD, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze data and develop reports.
