Job Description

This role helps Allstate identify, define, and refine new product and business opportunities in a highly integrated manner, optimizing approach and outcomes in a way that solves for consumers, the success of the new venture we are building, and Allstate's broader enterprise growth and transformation strategy.

Job Summary

Allstate's Consumer Product Development team helps drive Allstate's future by identifying compelling new product opportunities and developing selected opportunities into thriving businesses. We bring together skills in strategy, product, design, technology, and data to create new, consumer-focused insurance and protection products. Examples of past product and business innovations include:

  • Exploration of risk assessment technologies that resulted in a B2B big data new co.

  • Exploration of the emerging device (e.g. smart phone) protection space that resulted in a $1.4B acquisition

  • Exploration of the digital protection space that resulted in a $525M acquisition

  • Exploration of the peer-to-peer economy that resulted in a P2P car sharing new co.

  • Exploration of the future of consumer data and AI that resulted in series A investment and joint product development with a leading Web3 startup

Our projects typically feature lean cross-functional teams with expertise in business strategy, product, technology, and design. The Strategy & Operations function helps Allstate identify, define, and refine new product and business opportunities in a highly integrated manner, optimizing approach and outcomes in a way that solves for consumers, the success of the new venture we are building, and Allstate's broader enterprise growth and transformation strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new product and business opportunities for Allstate: apply business acumen to rigorously sourced and interrogated internal and external signals to find and prioritize the best opportunities for Allstate today and in the future.

  • Develop strategy for the opportunities we choose to pursue: consider market landscape, business model options, go-to-market approaches, etc. and craft the best path to achieve our goals.

  • Integrate strategies, business models, and goals of Allstate's new product development efforts with broader enterprise goals and activities, to identify and capture synergy opportunities.

  • Support the development of new products and businesses by coordinating and/or driving operational and back-office functions, partnering with and leveraging Allstate resources - e.g., finance, legal, regulatory, customer service. Define and pursue operational excellence for the products we build.

  • Additionally,

    • Act as a thought partner to your initiative leadership team, including product, design, and technology functional leads.

    • Help manage a cross-functional and cross-enterprise stakeholder group that includes senior Allstate executives. Build alignment through clear communication - rooted in a warm, collaborative engagement style. Tactically, this will require designing and structuring crisp discussion messaging and materials for executive-level meetings. Interpersonally, this will require developing strong relationships across multiple levels of the organization and earning influence and credibility along the way.

    • Cultivate a wide portfolio of strategic partnerships - e.g. product capability licenses with startups, distribution agreements with commercial partners, and a variety of cross-Allstate, cross-functional partnerships.

    • As the project scales, help build scale the team's Strategy & Operations capabilities.

Relevant Experience

Ideal candidates will have 7 or more years of experience and a track record of driving impact in strategy & operations.

  • Strategy & Ops experience: the ideal candidate will have experience in Strategy & Ops roles or strategic-focused Product roles within a broader new product development effort. Preference for leading digital consumer product companies, with a mix of open-ended, fast-moving environments and large corporate environments.
  • Other relevant experience: strategy consulting at a top-tier firm, with casework that includes "pure strategy/growth strategy" and "new product/business build" engagements with Fortune 500 C-level clients.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from a top academic institution with a differentiated academic track record is preferred. MBA from a top institution is a plus.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving:Structured thinking skills, including broad business acumen to tackle a wide range of issues in an integrated fashion (e.g. market landscape, technology landscape, consumer landscape) and the ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts and demonstrate a 'nose for value' to discern what is important and draw valid conclusions. Analytical excellence with the ability to bring a creative approach and demonstrate and communicate "next level of thinking". Ability to quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar subject areas with heavy doses of technology and data. Ideal candidates are passionate and conversant about business today and in the future, with an eye for differentiation through digital technology, data/analytics/AI, and customer experience.
  • Impactful communication: The right fit candidate will possess excellent presentation skills, powerful communication ability, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Stakeholder management: Successful track record of influencing a high-performing team at all levels of the organization, and experience developing strong relationships, including with executive stakeholders.
  • Execution orientation in ambiguity: The successful candidate will thrive in ambiguity and is an out-of-the-box and creative thinker who is comfortable with questioning the status quo and generally accepted beliefs while delivering major strategic initiatives.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $95,700.00 - 170,925.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
