Job Summary

The overall purpose of the Staff Research Associate 2 (SRA 2) is to keep the Bush lab running smoothly and to provide support to allow the advance of projects in the lab.

The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the PI to support research on signaling control of morphogenesis in the Bush lab by performing mouse PCR genotyping and mouse colony maintenance. The SRA 2 will perform additional duties as needed, these may include organizing lab orders, administering lab protocols, performing histological analysis, and generally facilitating efficient research in the lab. An exciting opportunity in this position involves learning techniques for generating new mouse models using advanced CRISPR/Cas9 based methodologies.

Note: This position requires a physical/health screening.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

Founded in 1881, the UCSF School of Dentistry has striven to educate the leading practitioners, scholars and
faculty members of the next generation. As a leading institution of oral and craniofacial health, our educational programs have grown to include, in addition to our DDS programs, an array of PhD, post-graduate and residency programs. Our student dentists, residents and faculty handle over 120,000 patient visits a year in our comprehensive UCSF Dental Center, and our students staff numerous community-based externship sites. The school is one of the top oral and craniofacial research enterprises in the world, ranked the top dental school in the country in research funding from the National Institutes of Health for 25 years, and home to several leading translational research programs.

The Department of Cell and Tissue Biology (CTB) is a basic science department within the School of Dentistry.

The department was established in 2005 and includes 15 faculty with primary appointments and five faculty with secondary appointments. Additionally, the department is home to numerous postdoctoral fellows as well as graduate students in programs ranging from Biomedical Sciences, Tetrad and Biophysics to Developmental & Stem Cell Biology and Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. Faculty research interests include cell biology mechanisms relevant to cytoskeletal dynamics, development, metabolism, cancer, immunology and neurobiology.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a related science or cell/molecular biology and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols, and efficiently work in a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Proficiency with common software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as PCR

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Background experience in craniofacial developmental biology with a working understanding of the related embryology
  • Experience with mouse genetics or mouse colony management
