Overview

Provide leadership and strategic planning for the Alumni Relations Office. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, the Director of Alumni Relations will provide a comprehensive program of activities for Clarkson alumni that will engage them as life-long partners in the institution. Direct and manage the alumni relations' staff in crafting and implementing a strategic effort on the engagement of Clarkson alumni. This should include objective measures of understanding the "pulse" of the alumni base, means to address their needs, and measurements of success.



Responsibilities

* Challenge the staff and the alumni association leadership board to think beyond traditional borders in an effort to embrace students and younger alumni in activities that will encourage them to be life-long partners with Clarkson.
* Provide leadership to the alumni association and assist them in providing the best possible representation and service to their fellow alumni.
* Create professional development programming year-round that allows students to connect with alumni. Provide oversight to the Knight Class, professional development workshop series.
* Partner with Good Knights Guild to create targeted outreach for volunteer engagement, specific to the Legion population of the Recognition Society.
* Manage the Slate alumni portal and all communications to alumni.
* Understand the differences in communication vehicles for alumni, and find ways to span the generations in an effort to create touch points with as many alumni a possible.
* Establish innovated ways to gather up to date information on alumni for purposes of communications.
* Develop the relations' management tools and reporting, to provide the office with the data it needs for event planning to maximize the number of alumni participating.
* Support the development staff in the cultivation and at times the solicitation of alumni.
* Collaborate with the Admission staff in building an effective alumni-admission program, which will appoint regionally based alumni in supporting their effort.
* Provide support and follow-up for all alumni, development and presidential events, on and off-campus, to guarantee the success of each of the programs. Embrace current trends in registration and marketing strategies for these programs.

* Partner with the academic units to provide opportunities for alumni mentoring of students and deliver web-streamed educational information on relevant topics to the alumni.
* Represent the alumni office and Clarkson alumni on university wide committees to characterize the thinking of a broader base of campus constituents.
* Serve as the Executive Secretary to the Alumni Association Leadership Board and manage all Board related activity.
* Manage the budget and maintain the alumni funded "Alumni Gateway" located in the ERC/Student Center connector.
* Provide leadership and oversight of key alumni weekends on campus (Reunion & Cold Out Gold Out)
* Provide guidance and oversight to regional alumni chapter program.
* Evaluate and monitor effectiveness of programs/services and identifies problems, recommends improvements and institutes changes.
* Partner with the Development staff to understand strategically vibrant alumni growth areas and work collaboratively to engage those markets in a variety of ways to connect them to the institution.
* Other tasks as required.



Qualifications

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Higher Education Administration or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree and significant documented experience in managing an alumni relations and/or development program preferred.

Experience:
Minimal Experience: 5 years of Experience in the areas of institutional advancement, event planning, volunteer management or related fields such as marketing, management or communications.

Preferred Experience: 7 -10 years of increasing experience in advancement.



Essential Skills

* Must have experience using CRM platforms.
* At least basic knowledge of HTML coding is required.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
* Strong interpersonal and organizational proficiency.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment with diverse groups of volunteers on and off campus.
* Must be willing to travel to and provide support for other University and Association regional events such as Commencement, COGO, and Reunion Weekend.
* Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
* Ability to travel alone and with colleagues.
