POSITION TITLE: MECHANICAL ENGINEER, LEVEL III

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for the engineering of mechanical systems, underwater systems remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), diver tools, and methods for performing ship and offshore structure construction, inspection, repair, and recovery by divers and ROVs. Work performed supports Navy and commercial customers' operational requirements. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and receives moderate supervision and involves increasing project leadership and direction of junior engineers. This is primarily an office-based position, but some offshore travel is required for testing and supporting offshore equipment. This position is located in the Largo, MD, or any other Phoenix office location, with remote work options available.

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT (SALARIED) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Designs and develops systems and components for underwater use and supporting equipment (e.g. ROVs, AUVs and payloads, diving systems, cofferdams, handling systems, and deck equipment).
* Plans engineering and design work to meet customer requirements, including applicable codes and standards.
* Performs system engineering analysis guided by senior engineers and leads the integration of subsystems and systems.
* Engineers, tests, troubleshoots, and documents prototype subsystems and systems through the life cycle of the system, including conception, definition, build, and operation phases.
* Performs some project technical leadership and management, including client interface, technical team organization, responsibility for design, and some fiscal responsibility.
* Participates in marketing, conferences, and bid and proposal work.
* Drafts/Assembles project documentation packages and proposals as assigned.
* Works in a multidisciplinary team environment on multiple projects, while coordinating with engineers, resource managers, and program managers.
* Supervises the work of engineers, CAD Designers/Draftspersons, and subcontractors and checks drawings and analyses performed by others.
* Works with all basic mechanical analyses and equipment and provides expertise in at least two types of equipment.
* Interfaces with Divers, ROV crews, and technicians to ensure meeting operational needs and to address technical issues.
* Follows Phoenix Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and on tasks they are responsible for, implements the QMS procedures.
* Travels 5-10% of the time. Offshore projects may rarely be up to 6 weeks. May be contacted for support from offshore crews at any time.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* MS degree in mechanical, structural, naval architecture, marine, or ocean engineering desired. Minimum 8 years of applicable working experience.
* Expertise in two, proficiency in two, and familiarity with at least three types of analyses to include: structural (AISC Steel Construction Manual, Aluminum Association Aluminum Design Manual), ROVs/AUVs, naval architecture, hydraulics, cofferdams (NAVSEA Underwater Ships Husbandry Manual CH 16), cranes/A-frames/winches (American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Underwater Vehicles, Systems and Hyperbaric Facilities), umbilicals, propulsion, materials/corrosion, rigging (NAVFAC P-307), and welding (American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1, D1.2, D1.9).
* Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D solid modeling program.
* Familiar with SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA software.
* Proficiency in Quality Management Systems.
* Demonstrated advanced technical writing skills. Experience with document/proposal development process. Advanced knowledge of MS Office software.
* Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance desired.
* Engineering experience in marine industry desired.
* Commercial diving or ROV experience desired.
* Mechanical or machine shop experience desired.
* Willingness and physical ability to travel to all Phoenix facilities and to field operations, inland and offshore, including climbing ladders, personnel transfer at-sea, and carrying/lifting 40 lbs.
* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check, as required.
