Position description

OVERVIEW

Reporting to The Director of the NSF ExFAB BioFoundry, and working closely with the ExFAB Managing Director at UCSB and the ExFAB Co-Principal Investigators and staff at UC Riverside and CalPoly Pomona, the User Coordinator leads the ExFAB's User Program. Through administration of this program, the User Coordinator (1) coordinates and leads the ExFAB user programs across the three campuses (2) drives the recruitment of a diverse community of external users to ExFAB through both remote and in-person marketing activities, with a particular focus on engaging non-R1 universities, (3) works with the education leads to coordinate user education and training activities, such as the ExFAB summer school and ExFAB CSU Masters program, (4) coordinates visits by external researchers to ExFAB, and, (5) highlights key achievements from the ExFAB user community resulting from utilization of the platform.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates are expected to have a Master's degree or higher in a Life Sciences and/or Biological Engineering field or a related discipline.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates should have a technical mastery of microbial biology, experimental workflows that handle microbes, and demonstrated technical communication skills with experts and non-experts.

Experience with marketing strategies, including the use of web, video, and social media.

  • Statement of Research - The User Coordinator will work with users to ensure research projects are well designed and viable with ExFAB's facility, redesigning experiments as needed while maintaining outcomes. They must identify if projects fit ExFAB's strategic areas and require someone with direct research experience. The Statement of Research will assess candidates' past research experience, how it aligns with ExFAB's focus and capabilities, and how it prepares the candidate for the role of the ExFAB User Coordinator.
