Job Summary

Oversees the organization's research security compliance, aligning strategies with research enterprise goals. As part of the Office of Research Integrity Assurance (ORIA) and leadership team, collaborates with the Director/Facility Security Officer and ORIA leadership to effectively address evolving research security and compliance needs. Focuses on the resident instruction research security program, including NSPM-33 directives, and supports processes for CMMC, Export Control, Conflict of Interest, and other regulatory and sponsor-specific requirements. Monitors emerging compliance risks in higher education, research, and government, advising stakeholders on solutions to support Georgia Tech's objectives. Engages with research security professionals across institutions to stay informed on compliance trends and share best practices. Actively participates in relevant professional organizations.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Oversee the resident instruction research security function, establish a risk assessment process, and plan for the Institute to ensure compliance with established regulatory rules at the resident instruction level, supporting research at the controlled unclassified level.

Job Duty 2 -
Stay current with the latest developments and updates in the NSPM-33 requirements and other relevant regulations.

Job Duty 3 -
Develop a comprehensive research security program in partnership with related areas such as classified resident instruction research, cybersecurity, foreign travel security, research security training, conflict of interest, sponsored program, and export control training. Additional responsibilities include developing risk assessment guidelines and associated policies and supporting researchers in meeting requirements and obligations related to research security matters.

Job Duty 4 -
Provide support to collaborating departments throughout the CMMC certification process by assisting with documentation and preparing for audits.

Job Duty 5 -
Management of the Institute's obligations related to research security compliance. This effort includes ensuring coordination with the Institute's compliance offices (Export Control, GT Research Security Program, Conflict of Interest, General Counsel's Office) for the assessment of and response to national security threats and other threats to research information and the research infrastructure.

Job Duty 6 -
Coordinate and align processes and procedures between residential instruction and GTRI

Job Duty 7 -
Supervise the preparation of annual reports and other department reports as requested by campus leadership.

Job Duty 8 -
Provide research security guidance to cross-functional departments and the campus community through presentations, communications, and training on regulatory requirements.

Job Duty 9 -
Provide direction to the Institute's communications team to ensure that all publications align with applicable research security laws and regulations, while disseminating relevant information and connecting units as needed.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Security management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Affairs, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Seven or more years of job-related experience in research administration experience in various compliance and security functions. Examples include but are not limited to Industrial Security, Security Management, Export Controls, Conflicts of Interest, and Controlled Unclassified Information. Some combination of industry or higher education experience with at least five years of significant and related expertise in research administration or security is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer a Master's degree in Business Administration; Security Studies, Intelligence, or Homeland Security; Risk Management; Public Administration, Public Affairs, Engineering, Physical Sciences, related fields, or law degree

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Examples include but are not limited to Industrial Security, Security Management, Export Controls, Conflicts of Interest, and Controlled Unclassified Information. Some combination of industry or higher education experience with at least five years of significant and related expertise in research administration or security is acceptable.

Other Information

Job Grade: A14

The salary range for this position is $127,257.00 to $160,000. The final offer commensurate with education and experience.
