Location Site: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak St. SE, Salem, OR 97301Department: SH Operating RoomPosition Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Non-exemptSchedule: Variable 4 days on 10-hour shifts. Beginning at 6:00 a.m. with staggered arrival times until 7:00 p.m.
Your role with usAs a Surgical Technologist at Salem Health, you'll be a vital part of our dynamic operating room team, directly supporting high-acuity procedures that improve-and often save-lives. Working in one of the busiest Level II Trauma Centers on the West Coast, you'll assist in a wide range of surgeries, from open-heart and neuro to bariatric and trauma, across 18 state-of-the-art ORs. Your attention to detail, commitment to sterile technique, and ability to anticipate surgeon needs will help ensure every procedure is safe, efficient, and precise. At Salem Health, your skills, focus, and dedication will make a real difference for every patient on the table.What you'll doPrepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment for a wide range of surgical proceduresAnticipate surgeon needs and respond quickly and precisely during operationsPerform surgical counts, manage specimens, and follow strict protocols for hand hygiene, time-outs, and medication labelingAssist in room turnover and maintain accurate preference cards for efficient workflowSupport surgeries in specialties including cardiac, neuro, ortho, general, urology, bariatrics, and traumaWork with advanced technology including Da Vinci XI robotic systems and image-guided surgical toolsContribute to the care of diverse patient populations, from pediatric to geriatricMentor peers and participate in continuous improvement efforts within the departmentCollaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment
Background/experienceCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) issued through the American Heart Association (AHA)And will follow any one of three paths:Path I: Completion of an Accredited Educational ProgramCompletion of a surgical technology educational program accredited by a national accreditation organization that is approved by the Oregon Health Authority; andHolds a current surgical technologist certification issued through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or, obtains surgical technologist certification through the NBSTSA within twelve months of program completion.Path II: Completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training ProgramProvides documentation showing completion of a training program for surgical technologists in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; andDemonstrates that sixteen hours of approved continuing education was completed every two yearsPath III: ExperienceProvides documentation demonstrating practice of surgical technology during at least two of the years between January 1, 2014 and January 1, 2017; andIf experienced in the state of Oregon, must also demonstrate that sixteen hours of continuing education was completed every two years since 1/1/2017
