Your role and responsibilities

The Sr Payroll Tax Analyst demonstrates in depth knowledge in regard to US payroll tax law and regulation. This role will be responsible for monitoring and performing ABB payroll tax activities, including all tax correspondences and transactions with the 3rd party payroll tax provider as well as internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing & reporting to government authorities.
This role is hybrid (#LI-Hybrid) out of the Cary, NC office.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Operational Services: Researching and remaining current with payroll tax compliance laws and regulations, provides payroll tax awareness of applicable changes, and provides appropriate recommendations. Collaborating with team along with various workstreams to resolve employee inquiries/cases within the SLA timeframe. Documents the source, seeks proper approvals, determines any necessary transactions, and documents them according to ABB policies. Accountability for analysis of payroll or employee data related entries that impact the accuracy of tax withholding or reporting. Helping identify drivers for these abnormalities, researches, analyses and documents as well as propose corrective action.
- Customer Experience: Building strong working relationships with various cross-functional groups throughout Human Resources to deliver exceptional customer service experience by responding accurately and timely to customer requests.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide recommendations for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. Confirming that all controls are functioning as designed and proactively identifies areas for improvement in internal controls. Includes testing of segregation of duties (SOD), testing of payroll service's controls and identifies "gaps", as well as participating in annual SOX testing and validation exercises. Identifying and implementing improvement ideas by challenging the status-quo (especially processes that are manual/repetitive).

Qualifications for the role
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree with two years of payroll time experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Knowledge of payroll methods, end-to-end processing steps, and best practices; up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Experience with SAAS Systems.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-state and multi-company payroll.
  • Knowledge of integrated, cross-functional business systems
  • CPP certification preferred.
  • Workday or SAP payroll module experience preferred.
  • ADP experience preferred.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
