Job Overview

The Product Engineering Manager's primary responsibility is to guide the engineering team through the product lifecycle, from conception to launch, ensuring that all products meet our high standards of quality and user satisfaction. The Product Engineering Manager makes recommendations to improve material selection, productivity, quality, profitability, and the efficiency of operations to ensure products are consistent with established standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product engineering, project management, and team leadership. In addition, they will manage and own all product definition, engineering change processes, and assist sales with Customer complaints or new sales opportunities.

A Day In The Life

Manage all aspects of product definition for HGUS, including designs, drawings, product knowledge, training, and assist NPD team in rolling out new products. Lead, coach, develop and manage a team of product engineers and designers, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality results. Support actions and drive material cost reductions via design enhancements or material substitutions with strategic sourcing and advanced engineering manufacturing teams. Identify, develop and maintain CAD software, PDM and engineering change management processes. Identify new opportunities to implement new software to streamline engineering processes. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and ensure that the engineering team has clear and achievable goals. Track and improve key performance indicators related to product engineering processes, ensuring that deadlines are met, and resources are allocated effectively. Implement and oversee site standard work procedures, quality guidelines and internal specifications that align with corporate guidelines, quality, operations and health metrics. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and develop career growth opportunities for team members. Identify and resolve any issues related to the technical aspects of product management, including troubleshooting and debugging software. Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, PHMSA rulings, new technologies, and best practices that can be applied to improve the product development process. Align and work closely with Sales, Product Management, Customer Service to meet the needs and priorities of our customers. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team, encouraging experimentation with qualification and the adoption of new technologies and methodologies. Work with production, finance, corporate materials, corporate sourcing and quality control teams to meet material requirements and optimize inventory management. Leverage technologies for effective product management and collaborating with corporate teams to implement solutions. Develop a network of industry relationships. These should include Contractors, Distributors, Utilities, and regulatory contacts. Identify, communicate and roll out environmentally friendly solutions to new and existing products

What will help you thrive in this role?

Bachelor's and/or master's degree in mechanical, manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or a related field from an accredited four-year program. 8+ years of progressive experience in Product or Manufacturing Engineering. Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. 5+ years of experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, preferably SAP. 5+ years of CAD modeling experience, preferably SolidWorks and PDM vault. Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience, demonstrating proven leadership and team management skills. Strong analytical capabilities, including business process analysis and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams, influencing and persuading others. Proven ability to manage tight deadlines, prioritize workloads, and achieve results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong appreciation for data integrity and adherence to clear process disciplines. Ability to present information clearly to management and speak confidently to an audience. Good judgment and decision-making skills are essential. Skilled in Microsoft Office programs, Excel, SharePoint, SAP, CAD modeling, and dimensioning/tolerancing for manufacturing drawings. In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, like machining, welding, coating and assembly. Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with large teams and cross-functional collaboration.

Ability to travel 25% to 30%, mostly US domestic.
