Are you ready to make a difference in higher education? Indian River State College is seeking a talented and dedicated Accounts Receivables Specialist to join our dynamic finance team!

As an Accounts Receivables Specialist at Indian River State College, you'll play a crucial role in supporting our mission to provide accessible, high-quality education to our community. You'll be responsible for managing accounts receivables processes with precision and efficiency, ensuring the financial health of our institution.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications, knowledge and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field from an accredited institution;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of proven work experience; in Accounts Receivable or related field;
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word; or other equivalent software;
  • Professional appearance and demeanor;
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written following professional business convention;
  • Strong business aptitude and the ability to work with complex financial data;
  • Basic accounting skills;
  • Ability to work with people in pressure situations;
  • Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented;
  • Ability to be well organized;
  • Must demonstrate the highest ability to keep records and information in the strictest confidence;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated;
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Business, Finance, and proven work experience using an integrated, enterprise-wide accounting system is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing customer service and support to students, administrators, faculty, staff and the general public through telephone, email and direct contact;
  • Processing billing and reconciliation of receivables;
  • Overseeing financial aid disbursement process; application of scholarships and other 3rd party coverage to student's accounts;
  • Researching and responding to students account questions via the Accounts Receivable email and phone on a rotating basis;
  • Supporting all activities of the Accounts Receivable Office.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to;

  • Understanding and having knowledge of specific requirements and application of coverage to students accounts for 3rd party scholarships, internal scholarships, Florida Prepaid, tuition payment plan, military benefits, veteran's benefits, and financial aid to student's tuition and bookstore accounts;
  • Answering specific inquiries on student accounts and coverages;
  • Billing, monitoring and collecting payments from agencies and students;
  • Coordinating with Veteran's liaison for students receiving veteran's benefits;
  • Billing military agencies through various governmental portals;
  • Working closely with other departments and Student Support Networks to ensure student success;
  • Understanding and complying with the Fair Debt Collection Act guidelines in collecting payments for accounts turned over for collection;
  • Monitoring and reconciling student accounts turned over for collection;
  • Understanding application of all forms of coverage and payments to students account and provide accurate and detailed reconciliation to students, 3rd party agencies and colleagues;
  • Maintain and provide supporting documentation as requested for audits;
  • Having flexibility in schedule to service students and customers during peak periods, evenings, and weekends;
  • Ensuring records and information are kept in the strictest confidence;
  • Completing all other duties assigned by the Accounts Receivable Supervisor, Director of Student Financials, or Associate Vice President of Finance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
