HDR currently has an opening for a Bridge Intern with an interest and orientation toward highway bridges to join our team in Charleston or Columbia, SC. The Bridge Internship offers real-world experience on exciting projects and the opportunity to perform assignments under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer in support of bridge design and inspection projects.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Bridge Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

• Perform standard bridge engineering design procedures
• Assist with bridge concept studies and geometric layout
• Develop structural details using specialized software (MicroStation, Mathcad, LARSA or various concrete and steel design or analysis programs)
• Inspect bridges and complete site assessments
• Perform structural load rating calculations
• Help produce bridge plans using CADD software
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
• Local Candidates preferred
