Overview

The Manager Accounting oversees the day-to-day financial operations, support and maintain compliance with accounting standards, and manages the preparation of accurate financial statements. This role leads a team, optimizing processes, and supporting the organization's financial health and strategic objectives. This role reports to the Director of Accounting.



Responsibilities

    Financial Management
    • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
    • Reviewing, tracking and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS)
    • Manage the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll functions.
    • Manage daily accounting functions performed by both Staff and Senior
    • Accountants, inventory, capital expenditures and cash activities
    • Manage Prepared By Client (PBC) list and is a key contact for external audit
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment
    • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and conduct performance evaluations
  • Internal Controls and Compliance
    • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets
    • Maintain knowledge of relevant and updated tax regulation to ensure compliance and assist with audits
    • Prepare for and coordinate internal and external audits
  • Process Improvement
    • Assist in creating and implementing operational and financial procedures and controls to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency throughout the department, including campus Business Offices
    • Leverage technology to enhance reporting and data accuracy
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Support the development of budgets and financial forecasts
    • Provide analysis to aid decision-making and monitor budget variances
    • Lead and participate with cross-functional teams to implement finance department/corporate initiatives
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Work closely with other departments to provide financial insights and support strategic planning
    • Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders
    • Assist with compliance reporting
  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics.
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Licenses / Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (preferred)

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's of Arts or Bachelor's of Science with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience at a senior or management level (required)
  • Minimum of three (3) years practical experience with GAAP and SOX (strongly preferred)
  • Experience in using Great Plains (preferred)
  • Experience leading teams in a geographically distributed environment (preferred)

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
  • This position is designated as Hybrid (combination of onsite and remote); Employees must meet minimum technical standards for eligibility and participation. Work environments may include exposure to student learning environments with a variety of conditions. Employees must be able to follow all safety precautions including the use of personal-protective equipment. Employees must also be able to adhere to site-specific safety procedures.

  • Overnight travel required < 10%
