Job Description

Vanir is seeking an Executive Director with proven leadership quality and strong communication skill who can build on our continued success in the transportation sector. At Vanir we understand the need for modern, efficient, and reliable infrastructure. Vanir provides support services for highways, roadways, airports, railways and ports. We have a long track record of success, and Vanir provides all essential elements throughout the life of the project.

The Executive Director of Transportation works in a leadership, supportive and collaborative capacity to lead marketing, business development and key project performance initiatives. This position is responsible for advancing Vanir's presence, reputation, influence and capabilities in the transportation marketplace across the firm by working collaboratively with staff and industry partners in securing meaningful programs and projects, and continually improving our practice. This role maintains strategic focus for the successful pursuit, marketing, and acquisition of new business. The Executive Director supports each Area Manager with area growth strategy and program and project operations and will help increase and strengthen Vanir's presence in the transportation market sector as well as help achieve company long-range growth goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Marketing and Sales for Transportation (Highway, Aviation and Transit) PMCM services
  • Internal development and leadership of Vanir Transportation Services
  • Oversight on major programs and other specifically designated programs/projects
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge related to pertinent laws, regulations, funding mechanisms and legislation impacting the Transportation industry
  • Be the go-to person within Vanir for Transportation expertise
  • Be a recognized expert in Transportation services and be recognized as such by clients, A/E's, Contractors and governmental agencies
  • For designated project pursuits, in collaboration with corporate business development and marketing, assist Area Managers in developing capture plans, staffing strategies, identifying capture managers, proposal champions, and developing key messages
  • Interact regularly with internal and external operations, marketing and business development staff on proposal development, statements of qualifications, and developing marketing collateral
  • Write key sections of proposals when needed
  • Participate in presentation development, coaching teams and participate in presentations
  • Develop and advance leads for key programs in collaboration with Area Managers, from pre-sell through proposal, presentation, capture and contract negotiation
  • Attend industry-related associations, events, networking opportunities and collaborations
  • Strategize, plan and lead Vanir's involvement in client-related organizations, such as American Public Transportation Association, American Public Works Association, American Association of Airport Executives, County Engineers Association of California, Women's Transportation Seminar, etc.
  • Increase Vanir's visibility by developing presentations and papers on key topics and regularly presenting same at local and national conferences; assist others at Vanir to do so
  • Build purposeful relationships with key A/E firms, transportation agencies, Political Leaders and industry peers
  • Be an active participant in Vanir's internal Quality Program
  • Aggregate, summarize and present lessons learned to Vanir employees and officers
  • Maintain contact with key clients and partners
  • Contribute to the successful performance of each area through ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to motivate, engage and drive high performing teams
  • In a billable role, assist in program or project startup and client interaction on key contract wins
  • Represent owners, Vanir, and related parties in public forums and meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required. Will consider relevant degrees in Architecture
  • 15+ years in engineering, construction management, project management and/or related disciplines, 10+ years of which is in A/E/C industry
  • Strong success in selling and delivering services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Established network of transportation clients, partners, and industry organizations
  • Proven experience in Business development, strategy development, and networking
  • Experienced with transportation project development and management
  • Principles and practices of RFP/RFQ proposal response and presentation preparation
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $180,000-$220,000.
