JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Asian Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Asian Studies, starting in Fall 2025 (August).

We are seeking applicants with an interest in teaching courses on the history and cultures of Asia, broadly defined. The courses taught by this faculty member will also attract students from various disciplines such as art history; history; comparative literature; women's, gender, and sexuality studies; and global and international studies.

Responsibilities include teaching online World Campus "Asia 100" courses, as well as resident introductory to advanced-level courses related to the Assistant Teaching Professor's area of expertise. Teaching load is three courses per semester.

This is a non-tenure-line, term appointment for one year.

A Ph.D. in Asian Studies, history, art history, or a related field is required by the date of the appointment. Fluency in an Asian language or near-native proficiency in using Asian-language materials is also required.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so given the opportunity.
