Key Position Details:

This role will provide technical oversight to multiple ambulatory labs across the Allina system, including regular site visits.

In addition, this role will partner with clinic staff, clinic leadership, providers, and external vendors on items such as training, workflows, and process improvement initiatives.

Job Description:

Provides oversight of the development, implementation, quality management, training, and competency processes of point of care laboratory testing performed by nurses and laboratory staff. Maintains regulatory compliance, quality improvement, evaluation of point of care testing menus, and monitoring of established programs. May be a document owner of technical procedures, forms, and misc. documents. Functions as site lab liaison to the system Technical Specialist.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Supports and serves as the technical resource liaison for Point of Care testing (POCT) across departments.
    • Maintains par levels of supplies on each unit supported.
    • Provides preventive and corrective maintenance and annual safety and calibration checks on laboratory equipment.
    • Provides a system for backup methods.
    • Supports evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technology and equipment at the direction of the Technical Specialist.
    • Assists with development, implementation, and regular review of procedures and policies.
  • Communicates on behalf of the Lab as the POCT representative.
    • Fosters communication between laboratory and non-laboratory departments.
    • Participates in departmental and system wide initiatives.
    • May perform POCT testing to support validation efforts and interface maintenance.
    • Works collaboratively in dealing with laboratory procedural, technical, and customer service issues outside of the lab.
  • Maintains quality, regulatory, safety, education, and competency requirements.
    • Ensures all procedures/policies are up to date, and meet regulatory & compliance requirements.
    • Oversees and ensures employee POCT training documents and competencies meet regulatory requirements.
    • Ensures compliance with all federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
    • Participates in the training of employees and students.
    • Assists in the Direct Observations of staff for annual competency program.
  • Assists with selection and implementation of new POCT technologies.
    • Stays up to date and knowledgeable on new POCT technologies.
    • Assists Technical Specialist with change management.
    • Writes technical procedures, forms, misc. documents, method validation, and implementation.
  • CLIA defined responsibilities:
    • * 493.1425 Standard; Testing personnel responsibilities. Moderate complexity.
    • * 493.1495 Standard; Testing personnel responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited institution
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a high complexity hospital laboratory
  • CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1423 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications
  • CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1489 Standard;
    Testing personnel qualifications
  • CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1491 Technologist qualifications on or before February 28, 1992

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required by a recognized agency such as ASCP, AMT, or NCA in specialty area incumbent will be working upon hire

Pay Range

Pay Range: $34.83 to $47.74 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
