The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for the position of Academic Intervention Specialist. This position will coordinate the Individualized Plan for Academic Student Success (iPass) academic rehabilitation program for at-risk undergraduate students. The Intervention Specialist is a full-time staff member in the Academic Success Center reporting to the Director of Academic Success. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Review the needs of students on Academic Probation and/or Academic Warning to develop individualized comprehensive action plans for academic rehabilitation. This includes Scheduling meetings with each student during the first (2) weeks of the academic semester Interviewing students to understand the challenges, both academic and non-academic, they face in meeting their academic goals Developing a specific action plan, including resources and schedules, to assist students in returning to academic good standing in a timely manner Manage iPass participation throughout the academic semester. This includes: Regular meetings with iPass students to review participation and progress Communication with faculty/instructors to review student progress in courses Revision of iPass plans throughout the semester to ensure proper balance of student support resources Coordinate with academic advisors and Office of the Registrar to suggest optimal semester class schedules for academic rehabilitation Coordinate with other academic support units, including Tutor Connection, the Writing Center, and Student Support Services, to ensure resource availability to support the iPass program Liaison to the Faculty Committee on Academic Appeals MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field 1-3 year's experience in education academic support and/or student development Project management and/or pedagogical expertise preferred KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Excellent oral and written communication skills Knowledge of current principles and practices in higher education related to student academic support Demonstrated strong organizational skills in developing and executing multiple complex projects Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism, sensitivity, and neutrality Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations Ability to teach learning skills and present training programs to a wide variety of groups Must be able to competently interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff UVA Wise is an equal opportunity employer committed to excellence, affordable access, and unwavering support of a collaborative and diverse community.
