Summary:

The Packaging Engineer will focus on supporting Trident's plants on existing production improvement opportunities and commercialization of new packaging and product launches. This position will work across functions and locations to ensure consistency, and will also work externally to ensure quality.

  • Leads and coordinates packaging trials in our plants to support the development & commercialization of new packaging & products.
  • Manage and leads packaging cost savings initiatives with our suppliers & manufacturing plants to improve product margins, tracking against annual & long-term business objectives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with our R&D, Marketing & Sales partners to support innovation projects. Setup new item codes, develop material dielines and post for team review and approval of artwork.
  • Develop and implement new packaging specifications across all material formats, working with suppliers to update data sheets, dielines & compliance certifications.
  • Work closely with our strategic suppliers to keep track of ongoing projects, material lead times, costs & new opportunities.
  • Plan out project requirements in terms of deliverables for packaging, laying out timelines, milestones, hurdles and contingencies.
  • Review and approve new artwork, providing guidance on layout and ensure all aspects are approved with manufacturing plants.

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $110k to $125k.

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • A minimum of 5 years of packaging experience, preferably in food or consumer products.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, packaging, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
  • Specification system management, SAP experience, TOPS/CAPE, Esko, Microsoft Suite, Teams
  • Experience working in manufacturing plants, leading trials & communicating results to cross-functional teams.
  • Technical expertise across all packaging material formats including flexible, rigid plastics, paper, corrugated and metal.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working independently when needed and communicating risks.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, predominantly in Washington and Alaska.

Preferred education and experience

  • Seafood industry experience.
  • Additional food/consumer packaged goods experience.
  • Enjoys problem solving and coming up with creative solutions.

Work environment:

This job takes place in a typical office environment: temperature controlled with adequate lighting and has moderate noise.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly sits for long periods of time using a computer, is required to stand and walk; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch. May occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
